Radical Wings & Wind Tunnels

Advanced Concepts Tested at NASA Langley
£25.99
... & Mark A. Chambers

NASA's Langley Research Center, Virginia, has been a leader in wind-tunnel research since its first tunnel, the Five-Foot Atmospheric Wind Tunnel, opened in 1919. Through the years, Langley has wind-tunnel tested or test flown a wide range of aircraft, from tilt-wing transports to high-lift wings for commercial aircraft. Results from Langley's aeronautical development have been incorporated into today's modern civil transports and military aircraft. This book presents a behind-the-scenes look at how NACA, and today's NASA, use wind tunnels and flight testing to advance aeronautical science.

Whether military or civil designs, the NASA Langley facility has seen a great number of designs move through its wind tunnels, and this book does an excellent job of documenting their testing.
Internet Modeler, reviewed by Chris Banyai-Riepl, November 2008

This is a very good book detailing the history of aircraft testing at NASA Langley, and in particular some very radical aircraft wing designs.
Hyperscale, reviewed by Mick Evans, November 2008

The book is an insightlful read into the development and evolution of the American aerospace industry, and is simply illustrated with photographs of the vehicles discussed as they are being tested in the Langley wind tunnels. This book is a recommended read for anyone interested in this aspect of aviation history.
