A unique collection of photographic-reconnaissance imagery gathered before and after, but mostly during Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe on June 6, 1944…..The images comprise both vertical and oblique photos, some of the former making mosaics covering large tracts of the Normandy coast. Others mosaics have been created using modern computer techniques, and have therefore never been seen before.

Informative captions interpret details from the large area mosaics, which are presented in small enlargements of specific areas and features.

Tucked in among the text are brief extracts from memoirs written by people at first hand, and the horrific problems the invading forces encountered. They include a quotation from Lt-Col Otway of the 6th Airborne Division, who says:

‘We owe a hell of a lot to the Royal Air Force, not only for the risks they took getting those photographs, but the courage that they showed getting us in.’

This book is a belated tribute to both achievements.
