It's not often that the chance arises to remind readers that Hillman Owners Club also exists to promote Commer, Karrier and other Rootes commercial names in just .the same way as it serves the Hillman private car following. The owners of classic commercial vehicles tend to be a pretty self-sufficient bunch and keeping some of these giants on the road takes a lot of resources and skill.

What about these two illustrations? They prove first the rule that 'two come along at once' The picture of the mighty Commer Car Transporter was spotted on the internet when idly browsing. Thanks to Gary Knight from Cornwall for his assistance in producing the image. It's not clear exactly where and when it was taken but what a sight!

Whilst trying to think how to place the picture a new book dropped through your editors letterbox. Those farsighted folk at Crecy Publishing Limited have done it again. After producing the Malcolm Bobbitt book Hillman Cars 1945-1964 which many members enjoyed as a club Christmas gift, they have produced a masterly work on Rootes Commercials by Peter and David Henshaw.

The book deals with the post war era and includes many nostalgic illustrations. There is an explanation of the workings of the T83 two-stroke engine (I'll read it a few times before I understand it! Ed) and some superb reproductions of the distinctive Rootes advertising. It's probably not a good idea to wait for a copy as a club gift, Christmas 2011 was a one -off!

The publishers are Crecy and their website www.crecy.co.uk is full of temptation for transport enthusiast-or you could just buy this excellent Rootes story at £7.95.
